Press release: NSW ALP Build Public housing Don’t Demolish!
Action for Real Housing Solutions: Saturday 8am, 25th July at Sydney Town Hall at ALP NSW State Conference
We are in the worst housing crisis in living memory.
There are 58,000 people on the waiting list for housing in NSW and 62,000 people suffering homelessness. 8,400 social homes the ALP NSW government are proposing to build won't make a dent in this homelessness list nor the waiting list.
The 'solutions' the NSW state ALP government are proposing is also the demolition of public housing and the privatising of public lands.
Yet, at the NSW ALP conference in 2022, a binding motion was passed to place a moratorium on the privatisation of public housing including the sale and outsourcing of any public housing assets or services. Numerous similar promises were also made prior to the 2023 state election.
This motion and these promises have been ignored or reneged upon behind closed doors.
Moreover, within the 8,400 social housing dwellings, the ALP have slated to build, 2,200 are slated to be 'old social homes to be knocked down and rebuilt.'
Action for Public Housing NSW is taking action outside the state ALP Conference demanding the Labor remember its commitment to end the demolition of public housing and sale of public lands.
Join us on Saturday July 27 from 8-9.30am to hold signs opposing the sell off of public housing. We demand the ALP end the evictions, end the demolitions, end the broken promises.
