UNTREATED, DANGEROUS GASEOUS LEAK IN SOLANDER PUBLIC HOUSING ESTATE
Authorities have left a dangerous gas leak in Daniel Solander Waterloo public housing tower to go untreated.
A gaseous leak with a strong smell, has been identified by a number of residents in the Waterloo Daniel Solander public housing estate on level 6.
Action for Public Housing activists can confirm a gas leak/smell coming out of an electricity box on level 6, next to apartment 607.
This strong smell of gas has been noticed within (now deceased) Colin Burling’s apartment at 607 for over 4 weeks.
A elderly neighbour of Burling at 609 was taken into hospital two weeks ago, for an unknown illness.
Daniel Solander resident and gay man, Colin Burling was killed by police on Tuesday July 15th. Burling had rung the firefighters to complain about a strong smell of gas. Firefighters called the ambulance and police after diagnosing Burling, incorrectly, as having a drug induced psychosis.
Complaints about a gas smell had been made prior to Tuesday July 15, by a range of Solander residents to Homes NSW.
A massive explosion from gas leaks in public housing killed 30 year old Mhey Yumol Jasmin at the Whalan estate in Western Sydney in June 2024. The explosion killed Mhey and injured five other residents.
Last year in the Forbes Street Newtown public housing estate, gas leaks were found in the hot water heating system, but not fixed to a safe standard, reported the Newtown estate resident group.
These leaks are a hazard and need to be addressed immediately.
Action for Public Housing calls on Homes NSW and NSW Firefighters to take emergency and immediate action to solve the potentially deadly gas leak crisis in level 6, Daniel Solander building.
