Unit 2/ 12 Universal St, Eastlakes
URGENT ANTI-EVICTION ACTION IN EASTLAKES. FRIDAY MAY 23, 8-10am
Two 73 year old pensioners - Esther and Nellie - are being evicted through a no- cause eviction tomorrow morning at 9am by the sheriff's office.
The two women have nowhere to go, after living there for 21 years and will be homeless. Their locks will be changed with their possessions left inside and escorted off the premises.
The landlord is charging $750 a week for a two bedroom unit. The landlord has forced the elderly women through NCAT (Rental Tribunal) and it's a grandfathered sheriff's action - ie. the landlord took the case through NCAT and court before new rental rights laws were introduced. They are at end of the line for legal recourse.
The landlord used the excuse that they’re “putting their kids in it.''
We are in a housing crisis and this is the upshot.
Help stop an eviction and demand the government fill empty public housing places (280 or so dwellings in Sydney region alone) with desperate people like this, cap rents, repair and beautify public housing en masse.
